The spa facilities were really good and a highlight of our stay.

The room was uncomfortably warm and the air conditioning was ineffective.

Had very nice experience, overall gorgeous and unusual place.

The continental breakfast was absolutely superb, reasonably priced. The room was neat, compact and had excellent air-conditioning and coffee. The location was marvellous and lovely, the staff was incredible. Plus, main attraction such as Rougemont Castle was 1 km from this hotel.

Great contemporary feel. Great location for the City centre. Some road noise. Excellent breakfast - great choice cooked to order. Much better than buffet style. Loved the indoor/outdoor pool. Gym is small would have liked a rower.

The hotel seems very new. It is an amazing looking historical building, yet everything else about the hotel is extremely contemporary. The reception area consists of a room with a staff member standing at a small table in the centre of the room with a laptop computer. I have come across this type of reception once before and find it too public; it does not give the guest any privacy. On arrival the guests are offered the use of a complimentary iPad for the duration of their stay. The public spaces are generous and comfortable, including bar and lounge and outdoor lounge although I didn't go outside as it was raining while I was there. I ate in the restaurant for dinner and breakfast. The dinner menu was first class. The wine list comes accompanied by an iPad on which you can find out more about the wines on offer. The breakfast menu had plenty on offer. The location of the hotel is excellent. Although it was raining, I used the hotel's umbrella and walked to the main shopping centre and also the Exeter Cathedral in about five minutes. The staff are friendly and helpful.

Only two things I'd comment on here. My bathroom was tiny. I was booked in as a single and my room was on the top floor, so it was an 'attic' room. I was told I had been upgraded to a double, and the room had a double bed but definitely would not be comfortable for two people in my opinion. Although the bar had a smart coffee machine, with all the bells and whistles, the coffee was weak and tasteless. Someone needs to do some serious barista training, if they are to attain the same standard as the rest of the hotel.

Superb Hotel with very helpful, friendly, and predominently English staff. Lovely room with lovely touches such as ipad & nespresso machine. Restaurant quality excellent and Pool/Spa areas well worth a visit. Will definietly return to this Hotel.

Really small point - difficult to understand how to adjust room temperature - control was complicated & no obvious instructions. However, windows do open so not a problem !

The ambiance of the hotel was relaxed and welcoming . The building itself was interesting in decor and very comfortable. The food was excellent and the staff helpful and efficient.

Rather odd to have to go through the conservatory bar to get to the pool but minor inconvenience.

    charming rooms
    lovely breakfast
    frustrating parking
    slow dinner service

The hotel exudes charm with unique rooms, yet the parking situation is quite frustrating. While the breakfast was lovely, dinner service could improve, especially with quicker responses from staff. It was a pleasant experience with notable strengths but some room for improvement.

Good attention to detail, ipad, mini bar, helpful staff, nespresso machine

room quite small, water barely hot enough and certainly not enough to fill the fantastic bath.

The hotel is a mixture of old and ultra modern. It is a very luxurious hotel and the bed was extremely comfortable. There is also a lift, which makes it easier for people who can't manage the stairs. The food was excellent and there is plenty of alternitive and private places to eat apart from the diningroom. Room service is also available, which we didn't try, and they also have an outside heated pool. All the staff were friendly and helpful and it was spotlessly clean all through the hotel, with several coal fires around the ground floor. The shops are two minutes walk away from the hotel. parking is limited, but there is a pay and display just around the corner from the hotel. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to family and friends and would definitely stay there again.

There was nothing that I disliked about the Magdalen chapter.

The staff were all young and, clearly enthusiastic. I had several concierge type requests - Taxis, arranging a hire car, booking restaurants, times of mass, etc, all of which were dealt with quickly and by whichever staff was available. Had dinner in the restaurant which was delicious and local ingredients.. Loved the breakfasts too!! I am 68 and remember visiting the place (then an eye hospital) 60 years ago. A rather different experience. Will definitely stay at a Chapter hotel again.

Clean, modern rooms. Friendly staff, excellent restaurant. Excellent breakfast.

Not much parking in hotel and difficult to get a space in neighbouring council carpark

Modern and clean hotel with great staff. Lots of facilities in the room including Nespresso machine and good entertainment system. Very much the 5 star experience.

The heating didn't work in the bathroom and it was as cold as ice in there. This was a shame as the rest of the experience was great.
